Renewed cooperation Panzi: cutting waiting lists

Countless girls and women come to Mamas for Africa through our local reception points in the villages and hills of eastern Congo. And many of them need medical help in a hospital.

Mamas for Africa provides medical and psychological support. We also organise campaigns to raise awareness around sexual violence and gender inequality.

For medical care, we employ committed nurses. If they determine that a girl or woman is in too bad a condition - think of wounds after sexual violence and gynaecological ailments - we transport these women to one of our three partner hospitals. Where they get the right help, AND Mamas for Africa pays the bill. Thanks to our numerous donors.

One of those hospitals is Panzi Hospital - of renowned Nobel Prize winner Doctor Mukwege - in Bukavu. We also work with CELPA hospital in Bukavu, and Kasenga hospital in Uvira.

The need is great

The need is great. Countless girls and women come to Mamas for Africa through our local reception points in the villages and hills of eastern Congo. And many of them need medical help in hospital.

Mamas for Africa is chief supplier in Panzi

Doctor Mukwege of Panzi hospital: ‘you are “main supplier” of women in Panzi hospital.’ Let this sink in for a moment. In this renowned hospital, world-famous, so many patients can be helped through the ground operation of Mamas for Africa. And this is where you contribute by supporting Mamas for Africa.

Thanks to our sophisticated network of local reception points, spread across eastern Congo, more and more women are finding their way to medical aid. Because there is no medical infrastructure in rural eastern Congo, our outpatient assistance remains necessary. Without Mamas for Africa's network, girls and women would be left without medical care. A life-threatening situation!

A new deal with Panzi: cutting waiting lists!

But waiting lists were mounting. Therefore, we negotiated a renewed plan with Panzi hospital. In this new cooperation, it was agreed that from now on we would be allowed to bring more girls and women per week for medical care.

Until recently, we had to give priority to the women who were in the worst shape. Others, with only an incipient condition or non-life-threatening injuries ... they then had to wait. This did not feel right, dear reader.

Therefore, we can now help women faster with proper medical care in the hospital. This is better for the health of the girls and women, but also better for their families. Now that all these girls and women can heal faster, they can also live their lives to the fullest faster. Thanks to your support!
