Women on the run are especially vulnerable

The violence is gobbling up more and more parts of North and South Kivu. The situation is completely derailed. People are distraught and fleeing. But to where?

In this cynical war, girls and women are the biggest victims

Anke Dumez, director Mamas for Africa:

A humanitarian catastrophe is playing out in Goma, but we also expect an increase in violence across the region. I hope we can remain active. Women will again be the biggest victims of this new phase of the war.

Mamas for Africa continues to care about girls and women in eastern Congo. For years, girls and women have been a deliberate target in this harsh struggle for land, minerals, money and power. Our field workers and staff in South Kivu are resisting this and standing by their side.

The rebels are gaining ground in our South Kivu working area. According to the latest reports, they are rapidly advancing towards our home town of Bukavu.
