Today, Antoinette is a key figure in her community. With her wisdom, enthusiasm and commitment, she inspires an entire village.

But her strength has grown out of a deep wound. Antoinette is a survivor of sexual violence. Completely distraught, she once arrived at our local health post, where she received medical care and was guided step by step.

Under the caring guidance of our psychologists, she learned to stand on her own two feet again. What initially seemed impossible slowly became reality: Antoinette took control of her own life once more.

What's more, she became a leader within the local women's group, which meets under the guidance of a psychologist from Mamas for Africa. In this women's group, fellow sufferers find each other, offer support, share their stories, and work together to build recovery, solidarity and new opportunities for the future.
Antoinette proves every day that when one woman regains her strength, an entire community follows.
