Sophie and Michiel raised money for Mamas for Africa
When our daughter Rickie was born – the third in line – it became even clearer how lucky we are. She is growing up in safety, love and comfort. But that reality is very far away for too many girls, women and babies in eastern Congo.
That is why we decided to link Rickie's birth to a fundraising campaign for Mamas for Africa. This organisation supports girls and women who are survivors of sexual violence and fights for gender equality every day.
Due to the ongoing war tensions in eastern Congo, this support is needed now more than ever.
During my work in eastern Congo, I saw with my own eyes how incredibly strong these women are. Their resilience is both inspiring and confronting. It felt logical to us not only to be moved... but also to take action.
