Hope in the heart of violence

In Katana, a town north of Bukavu where the number of rapes has skyrocketed in recent weeks, Mamas for Africa has opened a new health post.

There, women can find medical care, psychological counseling, and, above all, a safe listening ear.

It is already our 14th health post in eastern Congo. These aid stations play a crucial role in providing assistance to victims of sexual violence. By working together with local health centers, the assistance can be provided discreetly, so that women can seek help without fear of stigmatization.

I thought no one wanted to touch me anymore. At the reception center, I received care, but also comfort. They said, “You are not alone.”

The situation in Katana remains worrying: rebels are destroying the social structure and displacing local leaders, leaving women particularly vulnerable.

Nevertheless, Mamas for Africa remains present. Providing care, therapy, and hope for those who have lost everything.
